LaTeach Burnett

New York native, Lateach Burnett has always had a passion for business. Being a Saint Augustine’s University alumna, class of 1997, Lateach earned her undergraduate degree in International Business. In its inaugural year, Lateach was amongst the first to have successfully completed the rigorous program. After graduation, Lateach returned home, to the city where dreams are made of. While in NYC, she landed a Management Trainee position at Hong Kong Shanghi Banking Corporation (HSBC). Her experience with HSBC prepared her for a next tier position in Human Resources with PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC). Wanting a place to start and grow her family, she later took a position in North Carolina with Fidelity in their payroll department. Desiring to climb even higher up the corporate ladder, she joined the 5 Star Umstead Hotel & Spa management team located in Cary, NC, where she served as the payroll manager. She helped to scale the SAS owned company from a staff of 16 to over 300. After earning an MBA with a concentration in Business Management, Lateach launched CollegiateBrandz, a niche company that specializes in custom throws and blankets branded with logos and insignia for companies and Greek letter organizations. With her corporate experience and now being an entrepreneur, Lateach is breaking barriers and creating opportunities for many. Her passion and drive for business has molded her into a certified Business Mogul.

Business Mogul was able to receive a few moments with Lateach to talk business!

Business Mogul: Did you have an "aha" moment that made you realize entrepreneurship was the route you wanted to go?

Lateach: My "aha" moment happened sitting in a meeting as the only minority and realizing I still wasn' t happy. When I no longer chased titles in the workplace, or big offices with fancy views. Even with the increase in salary, I yearned for this thing called success. Once I realized that I had to define success my way and that it didn't look like what I saw on TV or read about. I got it and my entrepreneurial light bulb came on.

Business Mogul: What has prepared you from your corporate business experience that makes you successful now as a creative/entrepreneur?

Lateach: Working many years in a Human Resource capacity allowed me to form personal relationships with my co-workers while still having the best interest of the employer. Being able to balance that is very important. I form relationships first then the sales will come. People have been supporting me because of this.

Business Mogul: What's next for you?

Lateach: What's next? I plan on working collectively with Colleges and Universities. My plan is that I can partner with institutions and give opportunities for their students. It is important to give our youth the necessary tools to think Big! Show them that they have options and entrepreneurship might be the choice for them.
