Your brows are the first thing someone notices. Because they frame the face, their placement and condition can have a huge impact on one's overall look. We’ve all had a moment of brow trauma and immediately noticed how much the imperfection affected our overall appearance. So finding the right person to do your brows is important.

There are many ways to shape your brows but a growing trend in the US is eyebrow threading. Some have yet to embrace this new precise process of removing hairs because of fear of pain. But, if you can tolerate waxing or plucking your brows, you most likely can tolerate threading. I went to Eyebrow Threading by Shabnam, who comes from a long family history of threading in Nepal. Shabnam was born into a family who specializes in eyebrow threading and for the last 10 years has worked with different shops perfecting her craft. Finally, her family decided to open up her own boutique shop called Eyebrow Threading by Shabnam.

Threading is an ancient hair removal technique that uses 100% cotton thread to remove unwanted facial hair. Its origins can be traced back to ancient Eastern culture and has recently gained popularity here in the West. It is the safest and most precise methods of hair removal. There are a few different techniques for threading. These include the hand method, mouth method and neck method. Each technique has advantages and disadvantages; however, the mouth holding method is the fastest and most precise.

I came into the shop as a walk in client at Shabnam’s new threading salon and boutique to get my eyebrows shaped and was surprised to have finished my brows and interview in a matter of FOUR MINUTES! Yes, I walked out with perfectly shaped “sister brows” in less than 5 minutes. With waxing you tend to face a short or long wait depending on the traffic but for me the fear of the wax getting on the wrong hair follicle is all that I can think about when lying on the bed waiting for the wax to warm and be placed. As a business professional my time and money are important and with this method I only paid $7 and was in and out of the salon in 10 minutes!

What method of threading do you prefer most? I like the mouth method better. Because, when I learned, I learned that way. So I’m used to it the most.

How long have you been threading brows? I’ve been threading for 10 years...pretty long time.

I understand that threading is a family tradition. How did you learn? Back in my country my mom and aunt know how to do it. I went to school in my country (Nepal) for 2 years and when I came here (North Carolina) I completed the course for my certificate.

What inspired you to open your own boutique and brow salon? Because I worked at other places for a long time, I decided to open my own because I love making people beautiful. And, it was better for our family to have our own thing, right? You don’t have to worry about any pressure. But, starting the business can be hard.

Were you nervous when the doors opened? The Grand opening was great. But, I was a little nervous being my first time. But, it went great!

The shop and location is great. Was it hard finding the right commercial space? It was pretty hard because it’s very hard to find a small space. This one is pretty big, but it worked out well. So, I’m happy.

The overall experience and interactions in the salon are warming. There are lots of hair removal methods out there. The best choice for you will depend on how much money you want to spend, the sensitivity of your skin, and your pain tolerance.
